Nebraska to Wyoming

Day 10 Photo Album

September 12, 2009

I began my day with the luxury of old habits: propping myself up on the bed, drinking coffee, writing, and waking ever so slowly from a rich night of dream activity.

It seems that the rain did not fall on North Platte, but the temperature dropped below 50. Shortly after setting out, I encountered rain of varying degrees. Nothing serious. The temperature never made it to 60 today, it dropped very quickly after reaching 57.

The landscape has changed dramatically. Lush farmland dwindled to scrub and dry hills. Gullies began to show themselves more starkly as I traveled. Brownish green became the predominant color against the steel gray sky of heavy clouds. They never broke but hung with an immense span over the far reaching horizon. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Today I upgraded from my tent to a “Kamp Kabin” at the KOA in Laramie. They are little cabins with everything but running water. There is a double sized bed and two bunk beds. The mattress is covered with leather or something like it. You bring your gear in and have shelter, heat, and electric. They even have a lock with a key. All for $12 more. I park my car right outside the cabin.

Arriving earlier than usual, I got to do my laundry and putter around with my belongings. It is very windy here and must be down in the 30’s.

Laramie is at 7,143 feet elevation so there is a bit of extra tiredness.

Today’s journey felt like everything dropped away and I was just laying on the ground looking at the biggest sky full of clouds I’d ever seen.
